It's crunch time in collegiate soccer across North America, and Sigma's alumni players are stepping up playing key roles as their teams march towards the post-season.
After suffering through some mid-season injuries, Siena Saints Emery Welshman has exploded of late, scoring his first career hat trick in Siena's 7-1 win Sunday over the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference leading Saint Peter's. The goal-scoring binge was the highest scoring match Siena has had in more than seven years.
The win came after the Saints defeated Manhattan 4-0 win on Saturday.
Welshman was named Co-offensive player of the week for the MAAC Conference. The performance helped propel Siena into No.8 in the NSCAA North Atlantic rankings.
The Saints are now 6-2-1 in their past nine matches, and are heading towards the playoffs in fine form.
Boston College: Kyle Bekker continues to be a mainstay on the NCAA nationally-ranked Boston College Eagles. Though the Eagles are struggling with a 1-1-3 record in the tough Atlantic Coast Conference, BC is ranked 20th nationally. Over the weekend, BC registered a hard-fought 1-1 with Virginia. The Cavaliers are the No.8-ranked team in the United States.
Bekker has scored twice and assisted on four others to sit fifth in team scoring. The creative midfielder has started all 14 games for the Eagles this season, and has scored one game-winning goal.
Through 10 games, the statistics show that Ferritto, a red-short freshman, is currently second in team scoring with five goals and four assists despite only starting one game. Brar, who has played in all games thus far, coming off the bench, has recorded one goal and two assists.
Ryerson: Closer to home, Sebastian Novais has quietly been fashioning a stellar rookie season with the Rams. Novais and the Rams secured third place in the OUA East Division, finishing the regular season with an impressive sweep of Carleton and Trent. In all, Ryerson closed the season with four straight wins for a 7-2-5 record, the team's best performance since the 1960s.
Novais scored the game-winner against Carleton as the Rams defeated the Ravens 3-0. Carleton entered the game as the CIS's No.8 ranked team and had only conceded two goals against all season. On Sunday, Ryerson travelled to Peterborough and defeated the Excalibur 5-2. The same two teams meet on Wednesday at Lamport Stadium. Sigma supporters can catch the game, starting at 6 p.m.
Oral Roberts: Jarrett Hamilton sits second in team scoring for the Golden Eagles. Hamilton has scored three goals and recorded three assists for ORU, which currently sits at 4-7-1 in the Summit League.
Cal State Stanislaus: Nolan Holdridge recorded an assist in Cal State's 3-0 win over San Francisco State on Sunday. Holdridge has recorded six assists on the season for the Warriors that improved to 9-4-3 overall and 8-4-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Warriors stay in second place in the CCAA North, one point behind Chico State.
