Name: Matt Guerriero
Matt is a crafty striker who blends quickness and technical ability making him very elusive to opposing defenders. He is a player who creates his own goals and creates for others in the game as a presence and a leader on the team.
In Coach Smyrniotis' words:
"A definite pleasure to coach a young man such as Matt. He brings fantastic energy to the team both on and off the field and it has been enjoyable to have Matt at SIGMA since our beginnings in 2007. He is a player that has developed through our system and philosophy and has embraced every minute of it to elevate his style of play to be a constant danger to opposing defenders. He is a real goal poacher who can create goals on the run or by setting up in front of the goal at the right spot. His understanding of the tactical side along with his ability to change direction while in possession of the ball is a rare characteristic in our area. I am positive of his success at Bryant University and it will be exciting to follow him along with his older brother and SIGMA FC player Lucas Guerriero as they work towards making Bryant a competitive program."
In his own words:
"In the fall I will be attending Bryant University and playing for the Bulldogs. I chose Bryant because of the great educational opportunities, school reputation and the fact that I have the opportunity to make an immediate and positive impact on the success of the team. It is the first year that Bryant will be eligible for post-season play in NCAA Division I. My time at SIGMA has been the happiest of my soccer career. I have been at SIGMA for 6 years and with their support I have grown tremendously as a player and a person. The discipline, coaching and training that I received at SIGMA were the key ingredients to my making it to the next level. I want to thank all the SIGMA coaches for not only pushing me to my limits as a soccer player, but also for allowing me to have a lot of fun for 6 years. I look forward to continuing my play with SIGMA when I come home in the summer."
In Coach Seamus Purcell's words:
"Matt has a great combination of skill and quickness making him a very dangerous striker. He has a very strong technical and finishing ability. Look for Matt to have an immediate impact on the Bulldogs' attack."
