Sigma's A1 squad opened up the spring season with a friendly against Canisius College in Buffalo on Saturday.
With a lineup consisting mostly with high-school aged players, Sigma played a hard-fought 2-2 draw with the Golden Griffins at Demske Field on campus.
Canisius plays its collegiate soccer in the NCAA Division I in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
"It was a very good match where our guys played some really good football," said Bobby Smyrniotis. "Once we got used to the very fast playing surface, we showed some very good stuff for this time of the year."
Canisius opened the scoring in the 20th minute, before Sigma's Cyle Larin equalized in the 47th. Canisius regained the lead with a goal in the 55th minute. Sigma tied the game for a second time in the 82nd on a header goal from Tomas Giannotta.
Sigma A1s will continue to prepare for the upcoming Ontario Soccer League season that kicks off in early May.
